The 2025 Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) concluded on Sunday evening with Suriname securing the overall championship title, edging out the host nation, Guyana, by a narrow margin.

Suriname amassed 83 points across the six contested disciplines to take the crown.

Guyana finished a competitive second with 75 points, while French Guiana was close behind in third, tallying 73 points in the official final count.

Despite missing out on the overall title, Guyana celebrated major victories in several key disciplines, demonstrating its regional dominance in athletics and intellectual sports.

As expected, Guyana once again claimed the overall Track and Field title with a monumental points haul over the two-day segment. The hosts celebrated individual success, with Quinyla Burnette named the Female Champion Athlete, while Ebo McNeil and Kaidon Persaud shared the title of Male Champion Athlete.

In Chess, Guyana secured the overall title; similarly, in Futsal, they achieved a historical title.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steven Jacobs, applauded all the student-athletes, stating that the greatest showpiece of the Games was the unity displayed.

“IGG was nothing short of spectacular,” Minister Jacobs stated, highlighting the success of the National Sports Commission in managing the event and fostering regional partnerships.

Looking to the future, Minister Jacobs challenged the competitors to deepen their knowledge in the “science of the sport” as they seek to improve their performances.

The baton has now been passed, with Suriname confirmed as the host nation for the 2026 Inter-Guiana Games.
