The third edition of the President’s Futsal Championship begins on Tuesday, December 9, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, marked by the historic debut of a new schoolboys’ tournament designed to invigorate grassroots development.

Coordinated by the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation in association with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the tournament is expected to be highly competitive, running through to January 2nd.

The action begins with the next generation of talent, as 20 schools participate in the inaugural schoolboys’ segment.

The preliminary round kicks off, immediately following a march past and an opening ceremony scheduled for 13:00hrs.

The highly anticipated men’s championship, featuring 48 teams vying for an expanded G$3,000,000 top prize, will also start on Tuesday with its own opening ceremony at 19:00h.

The year-end spectacle has once again attracted significant support from corporate partners, including two long-time supporters of Guyanese football: Swiss House Cambio and Cevons Waste Management.

Morris Archer, Chief Operating Officer of Cevons Waste Management, expressed delight at the company’s continued backing, particularly welcoming the inclusion of the schoolboys’ competition.

“At Cevons, we are all about empowering our people, so initiatives such as this Futsal championship fit into our core values as it creates an avenue for people to be active in a beneficial way,” Archer said, applauding the organisers for maintaining high standards.

Similarly, General Manager of Swiss House Cambio, Haniff Bacchus, highlighted his company’s “rich history” supporting year-end football promoted by the Kashif and Shanghai duo, expressing confidence that they will build on decades of successful promotion.

The preliminary matches for the schoolboys’ category set the pace, followed by a series of knock-out matches in the senior division on Tuesday evening.
