The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) continued its commitment of inclusive football development with a two-day outreach visit to Region Nine, led by General Secretary Pushpargha Chattopadhyay and Council Member/President of the Women’s Football Association, Andrea Johnson.

On day one, the GFF delegation visited Lethem, where they engaged the executives of the Rupununi Football Association, along with club representatives and other key stakeholders. The discussions provided an opportunity to assess the state of football in the region and strengthen collaboration between the Federation and local football leadership.

Day two saw the delegation travel to Surama, accompanied by the President of the Rupununi Football Association, Norbert Williams. During the visit, football equipment was donated, and meaningful discussions were held with local football executives and stakeholders.

Key focus areas included youth and grassroots development, recognising the essential role hinterland regions play in the long-term growth of football in Guyana, as well as the Federation’s plans to further engage and support hinterland football structures.

Executives and stakeholders from the region also used the opportunity to seek guidance from the GFF on their own developmental plans, underscoring a shared commitment to sustainable and organised football development across Region Nine and beyond.

Mr. Chattopadhyay said: “I think this visit was an eye-opener for me regarding the interest and commitment that Region Nine has towards football. The stakeholders were very cordial and interested in knowing about the GFF plans going forward. We had a very constructive Q&A session where the regional representatives at Surama posed very pertinent questions with regard to the development of football in the region.

“The GFF intends to initiate new programmes in the region and will look forward to an increased participation from the local stakeholders especially with regard to youth football. Rupanuni can easily become the torchbearer of Guyana football in the near future as we at GFF look forward to support them under the vision of President and support of the Council,” he added.

Meanwhile Ms. Johnson noted: “Our visit to the Rupununi underscores our commitment to ensuring that every girl and boy, regardless of where they live, have the opportunity to play, grow, and lead through football. This journey is not just about developing the game, it’s about empowering communities and shaping the future of women’s football across the nation.”
