    Two minibus drivers fined $160,000 for dangerous driving

    Two minibus drivers were charged and fined for dangerous driving following incidents on the Rupert Craig Highway on Wednesday between 09:00 hrs and 09:45 hrs.

    Steffon Welch of Eastville, Annandale Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and Trenton Europe Enmore, ECD appeared before Magistrate Nurse at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court. Both drivers pleaded guilty after the charges were read.

    Welch, the driver of minibus (BAG 6768) was fined $120,000 for three counts of dangerous driving. Europe, the driver of minibus (BAE 2338) was fined $40,000 for one count of dangerous driving.

    Meanwhile, matters involving nine other minibus drivers were called; however, no appearances were made. As a result, the following individuals have been summoned to appear before the court on February 13, 2026:

    Stanley Mohamed (BAJ 7121)

    Noel Bowen (BZZ 1640)

    Avery Corbin (BAK 6541)

    Nyal Eustace Thom (BAD 6067)

    Phillip Premnauth Mohabir (BAJ 5423)

    Neil Dos Santos (BAD 5794)

    Martin Hunte BAE 5920

    Daniel Van Collins (BAE 7708)

    Shane Walker (BMM 2609).

    The Traffic Department continues to adopt technology to support remote monitoring and smart enforcement. Motorists are reminded that careful driving saves lives.
