Kerol Thom, a 38-year-old cattle farmer from Brighton Village, Corentyne, Berbice, believes that his six missing cows have been stolen.

Thom told the News Room that he discovered his cows were not in a pen situated a short distance from his residence sometime on Thursday. After the startling discovery, he searched the immediate vicinity and subsequently extended his search to adjacent villages, but was unsuccessful.

Thom, employed as a laborer for a rice farmer, reported that a formal complaint was filed at the Number 51 Police Station.

He believes the animals were removed through a rear gate of the pen. Thom noted that some of the cows had been tethered to a post with ropes, which were found cut, with remnants still hanging inside the pen.

“That’s my livelihood; I depend on them. Since the estate closed, I buy one, one died, and a try with the calf alone. That is where I get increase from,” he stated.

The father of two mentioned that four of the cows were mature and had calves, while the remaining two were without calves. Additionally, two smaller cows were present.

Thom estimated that the total value of the animals exceeds $2 million. He expressed hope of recovering the missing livestock shortly.

Over the years, cattle rustling has become an increasing concern in the Corentyne area.
