The Guyana Defence Force Football Club celebrate another title in Women’s Division One in the presence of Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steven Jacobs and officials of the Guyana Football Federation

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Football Club has reaffirmed its status as the undisputed queens of the local game, securing the Women’s Division One League Cup with a clinical victory over rivals Guyana Police Force (GPF).

In a high-stakes final at the Guyana Football Federation’s National Training Facility in Providence, the GDF ladies produced a professional 2-0 performance to add more silverware to an already glittering season.

The victory completes a double for the Army side, who had already marched to the league title earlier this year with a flawless, unbeaten record.

The final was billed as a clash of the titans between the nation’s two dominant service teams, but GDF wasted little time in asserting its authority.

Shenessa Cornelius provided the spark in the 12th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse to slot home the opener.

The contest was effectively ended just four minutes after the restart as Glendy Lewis doubled the lead in the 49th.

Earlier in the night, the third-place playoff produced a similarly tight encounter as Santos edged out Fruta Conquerors 1-0. The decisive moment came in the 12th minute when Gabriel Rivero found the back of the net.
