Man charged, remanded to prison after discharging firearm
Kevin Adams, a 28-year-old unemployed man of Bee Hive, East Coast Demerara, was charged and remanded to prison after he discharged a firearm at an event.
According to a Police release, the man discharged the firearm at an event held at Retrieve Hard Court, Mackenzie, Linden, on Saturday.
Police ranks performing duty at the venue intercepted him following observations of a firearm being discharged.
During a search, one .32 Taurus pistol with a magazine and ten live .32 rounds were found in his possession. No one was injured during the incident.
Adams was subsequently arrested and taken into custody along with the firearm and ammunition.
On Monday, Adams appeared before Magistrate Rushell Liverpool, at the Linden Magistrate’s Court via Zoom where the following charges were read.
1. Unlawful Possession of Firearm without Licence – Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearm Act, Chapter 16:05
2. Possession of Ammunition without Licence – Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearm Act, Chapter 16:05
3. Discharging a Loaded Firearm within One Hundred Yards of a Public Way – Section 153(1)(iii) of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:02.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was remanded to prison until January 13, 2026.
