The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) is taking a bold step for road safety and grassroots motorsport with the launch of the 2026 Super Lap Series.

Executive Luis Kumar announced the new Time Attack championship as a solution to speeding on the roadways.

“We are moving the need for speed off the highways and onto the safe environment of the South Dakota Circuit,” Kumar stated. “This is the only place you should be driving at 100%.”

The series features a Pro Street Class explicitly designed for the average driver. Unlike circuit racing, there is no wheel-to-wheel combat; competitors race strictly against the clock. This “no-contact” format eliminates the risk of collision, making it safe to run your daily-driven car.

“To maintain the grassroots spirit, full vehicle interiors must remain intact; no stripped-out race cars are allowed in this class,” Kumar noted. “We want to replicate the success of the Vitz Cup. Safety is key: no roll cage is required for Pro Street. You only need an FIA-certified helmet and your factory 3-point seatbelt.”

Expanding the action beyond four wheels, Rider and Executive Member Alain Hopkinson stated that bikes will also be included in this time attack event. Hopkinson confirmed a specific focus on three distinct groups, allowing motorcycle enthusiasts to safely test their limits and machinery against the clock in a controlled environment.

The Super Lap Series is the perfect entry point for novices. Drivers and riders will share the pits with Guyana’s top racing personalities, providing a unique mentorship opportunity in which veterans can guide newcomers on vehicle set-up and driving techniques.

For those seeking extreme performance on four wheels, the Unlimited Group offers unrestricted builds for fully prepared track machines.

    2026 Schedule

    • Round One: February 15
    • Round Two: August 16
    • Round Three: November 22

More details on participation in the event will be released soon.
