In a move that signals a new era for South American motorsport, the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMRSC) has confirmed that the South Dakota Circuit is currently scheduled to host the third round of the 2026 GT Challenge de las Américas.

Set for the weekend of July 11-12, the historic venue becomes the latest high-profile addition to the international racing calendar.

The GMR&SC indicated that it marks the first time since the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) ended that a FIA-sanctioned international series will touch down on Guyanese soil, bringing a level of technical sophistication never before seen in the region.

The paddock is set to transform into a high-tech hub as the world’s most iconic marques prepare to battle under the tropical sun. Fans can expect a full-factory spectacle featuring GT3-spec machinery from Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Audi.

With elite race engineers and top-tier Latin American talent flying in, the South Dakota Circuit is expected to undergo a radical evolution in both prestige and performance benchmarks.

GMRSC President Mahendra Boodhoo, who spearheaded a three-year diplomatic effort to secure the race alongside veteran racer Mark Vieira and Executive Member Luis Kumar, described the deal as a “game-changer.”

The group worked closely with Trinidadian motorsport stalwart Franklyn Boodram to make the logistical and organisational leap a reality

“This is a massive moment for Guyana,” Boodhoo said. “Hosting a series of this calibre puts us firmly on the international map. It’s not just about the racing; it’s about sports tourism and showing the world that we have the infrastructure and the passion to host world-class events.”

While the ‘Latin American invasion’ brings a formidable challenge, the local Golden Arrowhead defence is already taking shape.

According to a GMR&SC press release on Wednesday, Mark Vieira, the veteran campaigner, is already confirmed on the entry list and Team AJM: Nasrudeen Mohamed Jr. will look to build on the momentum gained during November’s ‘Caribbean Clash of Champions.’

The release also indicated that the most significant development in the driver market comes from the two-time CMRC Group 4 Champion, Kristian Jeffrey, who has reportedly acquired a brand-new GT3 challenger specifically for this event, signalling his intent to fight for the top step of the podium on home turf.
