Kashif and Shanghai, Slingerz FC salute fallen referee Maurees Skeete

The Kashif and Shanghai Organisation and Slingerz Foootball Club have joined in the outpouring of tributes to Guyana’s FIFA Referee Maurees Skeete, who passed this week after a period of illness.

The Kashif and Shanghai Organisation said Skeete blazed a trail during her time and was always professional, while Slingerz FC recalled the phenomenal Guyanese woman as one “who always carried a balanced and fair whistle.”

The Kashif and Shanghai Organistion MS has paid tribute to the late Guyana and FIFA Referee, Maurees Skeete who transitioned in the USA following a period of illness, on January 9, 2026.

The Co-Directors of the most successful sports organising entity in Guyana, Kashif Muhammad and Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major, expressed sadness at the passing of one the most accomplished female referees Guyana has produced, who followed in the footsteps of Diane Ferreria-James and Kim Babb.

“We are extremely saddened at the passing of one of our top female officials who blazed the trail with passion, discipline and commitment during her time. We recall her performing professionally at many of our year-end Kashif and Shanghai tournament around Guyana and was always a pleasant and quiet individual whose understanding and execution of the game during matches were always on point.”

The Kashif and Shanghai Organistion would like to join the football fraternity in expressing sincere condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the late Maurees Skeete.

Slingerz Football Club extends heartfelt condolences on the passing of former FIFA Referee Maurees Skeete, who bravely battled cancer.

We recognise Ms. Skeete as one of the officials who always carried a balanced and fair whistle whenever she officiated our matches.

Football has lost an official who represented the game with distinction, integrity, and impartiality.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and the entire football fraternity during this difficult time.
