Don Singh, a councillor on the Georgetown Mayor and City Council, has been elected the new president of the historic Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC).

In the club’s Biennial General Meeting held on Monday evening at the main pavilion, Singh secured a decisive 47-17 victory over the incumbent, Jonathan Yearwood, in a secret ballot.

Yearwood, who had held the post since December 2023, was unable to withstand a significant push for leadership change at one of the Caribbean’s most storied venues.

The new-look executive body also features a notable addition from the playing ranks. Former West Indies Test batsman and long-standing Guyana captain Leon Johnson has been elected to serve as a committee member for the first time. Johnson’s transition into the club’s administration is viewed as a strategic move to bridge the gap between the executive level and the playing membership.

GCC Executive Committee (2026-2028):

  •  President: Don Singh
  • Vice-President: Graeme Alli (re-elected)
  • Secretary: Timothy Bhagwandin
  • Treasurer: Gavin Ramsoondar (retained)
  • Club Captain: Khemraj Jaikarran (retained)
  • Committee Members: Richard Kansinally, Leon Johnson, Keon Howard

The election was overseen by former Guyana Football Federation (GFF) president Colin Klass, who served as the returning officer.
