Delhi Capitals sealed their first victory of the Women’s Premier League season with a seven-wicket win over UP Warriorz.

Chasing 155, Capitals openers Lizelle Lee (67) and Shafali Verma (36) put on a stand of 94, but the innings stalled after the pair were dismissed.

Having needed 27 from 24 balls, Capitals saw Jemimah Rodrigues caught off the bowling of Deepti Sharma and had to drag the match to its final ball.

Requiring a single, Laura Woolvardt (25 from 24 balls) closed out the game by hitting Sophie Ecclestone for four through the covers.

Warriorz captain Meg Lanning hit 54 and put on partnerships of 47 with Phoebe Litchfield (27) and 85 with Harleen Deol (47).

However, the veteran Australian’s dismissal sparked a collapse of six wickets for 20 runs, with the winless Warriorz closing on 154-8. (BBC)
