A 29-year-old female is now dead after she was struck down by a motorcar on the Anna Regina Public Road, Essequibo Coast on Friday at about 21:50h.

Police revealed that Ashley Holder of Bushlot, Essequibo Coast was struck down by motor car PAK 4313 driven by a 54-year-old male of Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast.

The driver told police that he was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of the roadway when he felt an impact to the front of his vehicle. Upon stopping, the driver observed the pedestrian lying unconscious in front of the motor car.

She was picked up by the driver and taken to the Lima Regional Hospital where she was examined by a doctor on duty and admitted with injuries about her body and head.

She was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty while receiving medical attention.

Subsequently, the driver was arrested and escorted to the Anna Regina Police Station, where a breathalyser test was conducted on him, which revealed 10 micrograms – below the legal limit of 30 micrograms. He remains in custody.

Video footage extracted from the motor car’s dash camera will be reviewed as investigations continue.
