BUDGET 2026: $100,000 cash grant returns 

Thousands of Guyanese will see a direct boost to their household finances in 2026, as the Government moves ahead with the return of the $100,000 National Cash Grant, one of the centrepieces of its Budget 2026 social support measures.

First introduced in late 2024, the grant marked a historic first, placing more than $60 billion of disposable income into the hands of over 600,000 Guyanese aged 18 and older.

Government has confirmed that the programme will be repeated in 2026, once again injecting an estimated $60 billion directly into the economy, with the aim of easing cost-of-living pressures while stimulating domestic spending and economic activity.

The cash grant forms part of a broader strategy to ensure that economic growth translates into tangible benefits for citizens, particularly through direct income transfers that allow households to meet immediate needs, cover essential expenses and improve their overall quality of life. By placing cash directly in the hands of citizens, the Government is reinforcing its people-centred approach to development and social protection.

Complementing the cash grant, Government will also increase the monthly stipend for Pathway workers, Community Enhancement workers, Community Service Officers and members of Community Policing Groups from $40,000 to $50,000, effective January 1, 2026.

This adjustment will provide an additional $2.8 billion in disposable income to these workers in the short term and will amount to an annual injection of approximately $14 billion into the economy, further strengthening household incomes at the community level.
