Unstoppable Georgetown clinch Demerara Cricket Board U16 title
The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) has been crowned champions of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Under-16 Inter-Association 50-over competition, completing an unbeaten campaign with an eight-wicket demolition of the DCB Select XI.
The GCA’s clinical performance at the Lusignan Community Ground was the final act in a tournament they dominated from the outset. After bundling out the Select XI for a paltry 66, the capital side needed just 33 balls to overhaul the target.
Having won the toss and opted to field, GCA’s bowling attack clinically exploited the conditions. Mario Singh was the destroyer-in-chief, returning figures of 4 -12, while Afraz Khan (3-19) and Brandon Brown (2-24) ensured the Select XI never found their rhythm.
Only Noel Madramootoo (10) managed double figures in an innings that lasted just 28.5 overs.
The chase was less of a pursuit and more of a sprint. Lomar Seecharran, the tournament’s leading run-scorer, struck a breezy unbeaten 24 off 16 balls, while Makai Dowlin hammered 24 not out off just 13 deliveries to seal the result in 5.3 overs.
At the LBI Ground, West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) survived a low-scoring scare to defeat East Bank (EBCA) by 33 runs, a result that secured them the runners-up spot in the league table.
Defending a modest 81, WDCA’s Krishna Mahase (4 for 16) and MVP Harricharran (3 for 7) dismantled the East Bank lineup for just 48.
Earlier, Shane Dewa had kept EBCA in the hunt with his five-wicket haul, but the batting unit failed to capitalise on his efforts.
Top individual honours:
- Lomar Seecharran (Georgetown Cricket Association): The tournament’s most prolific batsman with 264 runs, including a century and a half-century.
- Shane Dewa (East Bank Cricket Association): The standout bowler of the competition, claiming 15 wickets—headlined by a superb 5 for 22 in the final round.
- Ishan Harricharran (West Demerara Cricket Association): He walked away with the Most Valuable Player award for a stellar all-round contribution, tallying 84 runs at an average of 42 and snaring eight wickets with a best of 3 for 6.
