The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has rolled out thousands of new technological tools as part of an aggressive crime-fighting strategy that is already showing measurable results.

Speaking at the Force’s Annual Officers’ Conference recently, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken revealed that 5,384 body-worn cameras have been deployed nationwide to strengthen transparency and accountability during police operations.

In addition, he said the Force has installed 58 CCTV cameras and rolled out 109 digital workstations, boosting surveillance capacity and modernising investigations.

Smart policing systems and regional command centres have also been expanded in Regions Three, Five, Six and Ten, improving real-time monitoring and response.

The numbers, according to Hicken, are already reflecting progress in crime reduction.

In 2025, the Top Cop revealed serious crime dropped by 25 percent. Currently, he said the Police are operating at a 23 percent decrease, with the clear-up rate now approaching 60 percent.

On the traffic enforcement front, Hicken said the Safe Road Intelligence System has issued more than 35,000 speed tickets since its launch.

Of those, approximately 40 percent are already in compliance.

According to Hicken, the figures demonstrate that technology-driven policing is delivering tangible results, with greater surveillance and stronger enforcement contributing to the downward trend in serious crimes.
