A lone bandit invaded the home of a rice farmer in Black Bush Polder, Region Six late Wednesday night and reportedly escaped with $150,000 in cash.

Nazir Khan, 53, told reporters that he was at home with his family around 23:15 hours when they heard an unusual noise coming from inside the house.

Concerned, he went to investigate and discovered a male intruder in the living room. The house was well-lit, and the man was not wearing a mask, allowing Khan to immediately recognise him.

Khan said it appeared the suspect gained entry by prying open an upper flat window, which had not been locked.

“When we asked, ‘What are you doing here, bai?’ he ran out of the house,” Khan recalled, noting that the suspect had already opened the door in preparation for his escape.

After the man fled, Khan checked the house and discovered that $150,000 in cash had been stolen from a bag that was resting on a chair in the living room.

The matter was reported to the Mibicuri Police Station that same night and again the following morning. Khan said it appeared the suspect gained entry by prying open an upper flat window, which had not been locked.

He also expressed concern about the suspect’s reputation, claiming the man is known within the community for similar offences and that other residents have previously fallen victim.

“We are hoping the police come and do whatever they have to do. He has to face the full penalty because it’s not easy. If he had come and killed somebody in the house? I don’t know if he had any weapon or if he had one in his waist,” Khan said.
