    Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine dies

    Former Executive member of the Working People’s Alliance (WPA), Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine has passed away.

    Dr. Roopnarine was 83 years old.

    He served as Minister of Education and subsequently Minister of Public Service under the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) Government in 2015-2020.

    Dr. Roopnaraine was lauded as “a man of extraordinary talent and intellect, dedicated to uplifting the voices of the marginalised through his words and actions. His contributions to the political landscape of Guyana, alongside his passion for poetry and literature, showcased his unwavering commitment to fostering a more just and equitable society,” by The Guyana Foundation.

    Supriya Singh Bodden who heads the foundation noted that “his work has inspired many, and his influence will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who strive for a better future,” noting that he stood with her to sign the documents forming the organisation.

    The organisation expressed condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Roopnaraine.
