Kevon Hatton, also known as “Smokey,” a miner of Vigilance, East Coast Demerara (ECD), has been charged with multiple offences relating to unlicensed liquor sales and noise nuisance.

The charges arise from an incident linked to an event held at Church Road, Buxton, East Coast Demerara, which gained public attention on Monday. Hatton was arrested on Wednesday and formally charged on Thursday with the following offences:

    1. Selling Spirituous Liquor without a Licence, contrary to Section 44(2) of the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Act, Chapter 82:21.

    2. Licensing of Premises for Public Entertainment, contrary to Section 3(1) of the Music and Dance Act, Chapter 23:03.

    3. Use of Unlicensed Premises for Public Entertainment, contrary to Section 7 of the Music and Dance Licence Act, Chapter 23:03.

    4. Making Loud and Continuous Noise, contrary to Section 174A(1) of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:02.

He appeared before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Bail was granted in the sum of $20,000 for the liquor offence, while he was placed on self-bail for the remaining charges. The matter was adjourned to March 16, 2026 for disclosure and March 22, 2026 for trial.
