More than 3,000 persons are expected to sign agreements of sale and begin processing their certificates of title within the next two months, as the Ministry of Housing moves to advance ownership in seven new housing areas.

Minister of Housing, Collin Croal, announced on Monday that the initiative will benefit allottees in Regions Three, Four, and Six, marking what he described as a major push toward strengthening home ownership.

The seven areas identified are #75 Village, #76 Village, Lusignan Phase One, Lusignan Phase Two, Good Hope Phase Two, Vriesland, and Laurentia Caterina.

The process has already begun in several locations.

At Lusignan Phase One, approximately 350 persons were called to commence signing. In Berbice, 150 persons from #75 Village and another 300 from #76 Village were contacted to begin formalising ownership.

Additionally, 500 persons from Lusignan Phase Two are scheduled for signing on March 7 and 14, while 300 persons from Good Hope Phase Two (eastern portion) were called in on March 12 and 15.

Croal explained that over a two-and-a-half-month period, the ministry will ensure that more than 3,000 allottees across these seven areas move closer to full ownership.

He noted that the government has invested more than $38.5 billion in infrastructure works in these areas to ensure accessibility and readiness for development.

“… To make it accessible for the persons to be able to access their lands.

“So all of these persons…for the areas I have mentioned can be able to see their land and from the dates I mentioned, henceforth they can sign for their agreement of sale as well as their certificate of title,” Croal said.

Croal urged allottees to remain patient, emphasising that home ownership is not just about land.

“It is to ensure that persons can have ownership, that they can be able to have opportunities to build their own home, and that is part of our focus,” he said.
