President Dr. Irfaan Ali met with the United States’ Secretary of Energy Chris Wright on Friday evening to discuss strengthening the Guyana–U.S. energy partnership and enhancing energy security for both nations and the wider region.

In a comment following the meeting, Secretary Wright reiterated the United States’ strong support for Guyana’s energy sector and expressed interest in deeper collaboration to promote sustainable growth. He noted that Guyana is a “well-governed” key partner in the development of energy production in the western hemisphere.

“We want strong partners, strong nations and strong energy production. Guyana is a huge part of this strategy, a very well-governed country with great energy resources that starting to produce and grow larger and larger,” he said.

The US Secretary added that “that’s a win for Guyana, that’s a win for the United States, that’s a win for the western hemisphere.”

The meeting comes ahead of the President’s engagement with U.S. President Donald Trump at the Shield of the Americas Summit on Saturday.

Secretary Wright noted that the Trump administration’s goal is to grow the production of energy and other natural resources in the western hemisphere. “This is our backyard,” he said.

President Ali reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment to advancing a strong state-to-state partnership and emphasised the importance of private sector cooperation in developing energy infrastructure.
