Police in Regional Division #3 have launched an investigation into a tragic incident that claimed the life of a one-year-old child on Thursday morning at Canal No. 1, West Bank Demerara.

The deceased has been identified as Talesh Bhudram, who lived at the residence where the accident occurred. According to preliminary reports, the incident took place at approximately 08:50 hrs in the yard of the family’s home and involved a motor tractor.

Investigators say the child’s father, who was operating the tractor at the time, told police that he had left the toddler seated on the front steps of the house before driving the vehicle out of the yard onto an access dam adjacent to the property.

Upon returning shortly after and disembarking the tractor, the man reportedly discovered the child lying motionless in the yard with visible injuries to the head and body.

Emergency Medical Technicians from the La Grange Fire Service were dispatched to the scene. Despite their efforts, the child was pronounced dead by a doctor.

The body has since been transported to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities confirmed that a breathalyzer test conducted on the father showed no trace of alcohol in his system. He is currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.

Police say inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
