A 43-year-old businessman was assaulted and robbed during an armed home invasion early Tuesday morning at Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.

Police Headquarters reported that the robbery occurred at about 01:40 hrs and was committed against the businessman and a 27-year-old female administrative worker, both of whom were at home at the time.

According to a Police report, preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were asleep in their apartment when they were awakened by loud knocking. Moments later, they observed four masked men inside their bedroom. One of the suspects was reportedly armed with a handgun.

The bandits allegedly restrained the victims by tying their hands behind their backs with zip ties before demanding cash and valuables. During the ordeal, Police said the businessman was struck to the head with the handgun, causing injuries.

The suspects then ransacked the apartment and escaped with a safe containing cash in United States currency, along with four cellular phones, including iPhone and Samsung devices.

After the bandits fled, the victims managed to free themselves and reported the matter to the police. The injured businessman was escorted to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was treated and later discharged.

Police said CCTV cameras are being reviewed as the investigation continues.
