One-stop government service hub opens in Region Two

A new government service centre on the Essequibo Coast has opened, bringing multiple public services under one roof as part of efforts to decentralise access and improve service delivery.

The facility at Cotton Field, Region Two, is the third Government of Guyana service centre and the first of its kind in the region, allowing residents to access key services without travelling to the capital, Georgetown.

Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation Zulfikar Ally led the launch and said the centre would improve efficiency and accessibility for citizens, particularly those in remote communities.

The centre houses several agencies, including the General Register Office, Passport Office, Environmental Protection Agency, Small Business Bureau, Guyana National Bureau of Statistics and Legal Aid, among others.

Officials said the integrated, one-stop model is designed to reduce wait times and costs for residents, while expanding access to essential services.

The move is expected to benefit vulnerable groups such as the elderly and small business owners, who often face challenges accessing government offices.

The government said the expansion forms part of broader efforts to modernise public services and create a more inclusive and efficient system across the country.
