First 110 Young Professional houses at Palmyra set for completion in June

Minister of Housing, Collin Croal says the first batch of 110 young professional houses under construction at Palmyra, Region Six, is expected to be completed by the end of June, as work continues at an advanced pace.

During a recent visit to the housing development, Croal said the project is moving steadily forward. And he noted that the houses are expected to be completed by the end of June 2026.

He explained that the housing design mirrors those being built in Region Four and includes modern facilities. The units comprises a master bedroom, two other bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen and living room area.

The houses are being built by contractors from the region.

“For example, these 110 houses they have 50 Berbice contractors who are building (them),” Croal stated.

The initiative, Croal said, is also generating significant employment in the region.

“The creation of employment here is about 450 employed on the construction of these houses…working every day,”Croal added.

According to Croal, the interest in the young professional homes has already been high, with pre-qualification processes expected to begin through the Region Six housing office as allocation plans progress.

In addition, Croal said over 1100 lots have been reserved for the construction of houses in the region.  While other areas have been identified for the allocation of land.
