Two persons arrested after Police seize firearm, ammo

Two individuals, a 32-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, were arrested on Tuesday night after Police seized a firearm and ammunition found in the car the duo travelled in.
In a release, Police Headquarters said ranks were on mobile patrol duty in Sophia when a white Toyota Allion motor car was seen proceeding in the opposite direction. The driver, who was acting in a suspicious manner, was signalled to stop but refused and the ranks gave chase.
The motor car was intercepted further north on Red Road, Sophia, where the driver, a 32-year-old vendor of ‘D’ Field, Sophia, along with a female passenger, was seen. The driver was subsequently arrested and escorted, along with the motor car, to the Turkeyen Police Station, where a search was conducted on the vehicle in his presence.
During the search, a black ski mask was found containing a silver and black .380 Lorcin pistol, along with seven rounds of .380 ammunition.
The female passenger, a 40-year-old waitress of Durban Street, Lodge, who left the scene as a crowd began to gather, was subsequently contacted and arrested.
The firearm and ammunition were lodged, and both suspects remain in police custody, assisting with investigations.
Investigations are ongoing.
