CANU seizes nearly 11kg of foreign ganja at Tuschen, two arrested


Officers of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) have seized a quantity of foreign marijuana during an intelligence-led operation carried out on the East Bank Essequibo.
The interception occurred on Saturday, April 25, 2026, along the Tuschen Public Road, where CANU officers stopped and searched a motor vehicle.
During the search, ranks discovered ten brick-like parcels containing suspected foreign marijuana. The narcotics were later weighed and amounted to approximately 10.992 kilograms.
Two individuals have since been arrested. They are 25-year-old Austin Jawahir of Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, and 22-year-old Jose Presilla.
Both men were taken into custody and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the seized narcotics.
Authorities say investigations into the matter are ongoing.
