Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo engaged with The King’s Foundation during his recent visit to Scotland, where he explored a range of programmes at Dumfries House focused on sustainable development and community empowerment.

During the visit, the Vice President toured several initiatives aimed at supporting individuals and communities that may otherwise be left behind. These programmes span areas such as construction, sustainable agriculture, heritage and traditional crafts, STEM education, health and wellbeing, and skills development. Together, they integrate training, enterprise, and community support to create meaningful pathways into employment.

Discussions also centred on the Foundation’s expanding international work, including its collaboration with Guyana to advance sustainable urban development. This partnership aligns with President Irfaan Ali’s vision to ensure that Guyana’s rapid urban growth is supported by strong planning, high-quality design, and a focus on liveability and long-term resilience.

Vice President Jagdeo also interacted with international students participating in the Foundation’s programmes, including individuals from Antigua and Barbuda. These engagements provided insight into training in areas such as sustainable construction and the development of practical skills suited to modern, climate-resilient economies.

Speaking after the visit, the Vice President highlighted Guyana’s significant progress in strengthening the fundamentals of development. He noted that over the past five years, the country has seen unprecedented investment in infrastructure, including new roads, bridges, housing developments, and drainage systems, alongside expanded access to services and economic opportunities nationwide.

He emphasised that as Guyana continues to grow, the focus is now shifting toward improving the quality, integration, and sustainability of development—ensuring that economic expansion translates into higher living standards for all citizens.
