Guyana is seeking partners as it establishes itself as a hub for entertainment, sports, and creative industries, President Dr. Irfaan Ali said on Monday night in Houston, Texas, as he championed the potential of the country’s orange economy.

The orange economy refers to all economic ventures related to creativity, culture, and innovation. According to President Ali, it is a sector with enormous potential for Guyana.

“We want Guyana to be a mega hub of culture, entertainment, and sports,” the President told a US-Guyana Business Exchange reception held on Monday night.

So what does he have in mind? Well, the President told the Houston crowd that he wants movies to be written and produced in Guyana. He also believes TV shows, like the survival-themed reality competition shows ‘Naked and Afraid’ or ‘Survivor’, could be filmed right in the tiny South American nation.

Previously, the President said his government was intent on bringing major sporting events and international conferences to the country so that more tourists would visit Guyana.

Now, he explained on Monday night, his administration is seeking partners to develop the orange economy.

“We have the ecosystem to support the orange economy in so many ways. We want people who will help us shorten the time to get to these products,” President Ali said.

Expanding the orange economy is just one way the Ali-led administration hopes to further diversify the local economy instead of relying solely on the oil and gas sector. The President said his government is pursuing development on a “single track.”
