Linden resident, 23, dies in Long Creek accident


A 23-year-old Linden resident died, while two other individuals were injured in an accident that occurred on Thursday night in the vicinity of Long Creek on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
According to a Police release, the accident involved motor lorry #GRR 7067, driven by a 31-year-old truck driver of One Mile, Wismar, Linden.
Based on initial enquiries, Police said, the motor lorry was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of the highway, reportedly at a fast rate, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with the left-side rail of a concrete bridge.
As a result of the collision, the driver and Isaiah Malachi Williams, a 23-year-old porter of Wismar, Linden, were flung from the vehicle and fell onto the roadway. Another occupant, a 27-year-old porter of Wismar, Linden, was pinned inside the vehicle.
The driver and both occupants were taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where Williams was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead.
The driver and the other occupant were also seen and examined by a doctor on duty for lacerations on their bodies. They were treated and sent away.
Williams’ body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of the motor lorry, and no trace of alcohol was detected.
The driver is presently in police custody assisting with investigations.
Investigations are ongoing.
