Zeelugt tragedy: 23-Y-O farmer arrested 

A 23-year-old farmer was arrested as Police conitnue to investigate the killing of a seven-year-old boy from Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.

In a release, Police Headquarters said the farmer, who also resides in Zeelugt, was arrested on Saturday. The farmer is in Police custody assisting with investigations.

Seven-year-old Adriel Aftab Mohamed was killed during a violent attack early Friday morning. Aftab, a student of Zeelugt Primary School, was at home with his 72-year-old great-grandmother when a lone intruder allegedly entered the house at about 04:45 hrs on Friday.

The elderly woman, who reportedly suffered a stroke and was unwell, was attacked after the suspect allegedly demanded money. She was stabbed twice, including to her neck, and remains hospitalised.

Police said investigations continue.
