Housing scheme planned for Mahaicony – Croal

The government is working to identify and acquire lands for the development of a new housing scheme in the Mahaicony area to help address the growing demand for house lots in Region Five (Mahaica- Berbice).
“We are currently working to identify or to acquire some lands to develop a housing scheme within the Mahaicony precinct,” Minister of Housing, Collin Croal said last Friday while addressing residents at a ‘Dream Realised’ housing drive in the region.
While house lots are currently available at Burma for persons from Mahaicony and surrounding areas, Croal said the government recognises the need for additional housing developments.
He noted that several housing areas are already being developed across the region.
Region Five currently has a backlog of 4,000 housing applications.
Recent allocations of 1,000 lots were done in Track C Experiment and Track A Hope housing developments.
According to Croal, the government remains committed to fulfilling its manifesto promise of clearing all pending housing applications in the region.
