‘Curry’ dragged, beaten and burnt during fatal attack at Honey Camp Landing


A man, known only as ‘Curry’, was allegedly beaten and burnt to death by a group of men, who accused him of stealing at Honey Camp Landing, Middle Mazaruni, on Sunday.
The incident occurred between 05:30 hrs and 07:00 hrs on June 8. Police said the deceased, who had no fixed place of abode, performed odd jobs in the Honey Camp Landing area.
According to a statement from Police Headquarters, preliminary investigations revealed that ‘Curry’ was allegedly confronted by several men who accused him of stealing. During the confrontation, Police said the man was reportedly assaulted by the suspects, who allegedly placed a belt around his neck and dragged him on the ground.
“He was also reportedly dealt several lashes about his body with a spade, cutlasses and pieces of wood, while an acidic substance was allegedly thrown on him,” Police Headquarters said in the statement.
The suspects then allegedly left the injured man lying on the sand near an abandoned shop and fled the scene.
Police were summoned and upon arrival found the motionless body of the deceased lying face down in the sand. An examination of the body revealed what appeared to be abrasions and burn marks.
Investigators subsequently obtained several statements and arrested four suspects, who remain in Police custody assisting with the investigation.
Police said efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend two other suspects as investigations continue.
