Engineer robbed of phone, $200,000 cash at Parika


A 21-year-old engineer from Wakenaam was allegedly robbed of $200,000 in cash and a cellular phone at Parika, East Bank Essequibo, late Tuesday night.
Police Headquarters said they are investigating the incident which occurred at about 23:30 hrs on June 9, 2026, in the vicinity of the Big Kiss Parking Lot.
According to preliminary investigations, the victim was walking south when he was approached by an identifiable male, who pointed what appeared to be a firearm at him and began searching his pockets.
Police said a second identifiable male then approached the engineer from behind and choked him while his accomplice allegedly relieved him of $200,000 in cash and a Samsung S22 cellular phone.
The suspects then reportedly fled the scene in a black Toyota Fielder wagon, heading east.
The victim reported the matter to the Parika Police Station.
Acting on information received, Police said investigators intercepted a black Toyota Fielder wagon and conducted a search on the 30-year-old driver. During the search, officers recovered $59,060.
Further investigations led to the arrest of a 17-year-old labourer from Stewartville, West Coast Demerara. Police said a search of the teenager resulted in the discovery of $65,000.
The vehicle and the cash recovered have been lodged as investigations continue.
The two suspects remain in police custody assisting with the investigation. No charges have yet been laid.
