Opposition Parliamentarian arrested after alleged domestic violence incident

An Opposition Parliamentarian was arrested on Wednesday after a domestic violence incident in Moruca, North West District, Region One.

In a release, Police Headquarters said preliminary investigations revealed that the Parliamentarian and his wife were at their residence when an argument allegedly ensued between them, which escalated into a physical altercation.

During the incident, the suspect allegedly assaulted a child, causing the woman to intervene. The suspect allegedly dealt the woman several blows and pushed her to the ground, causing her to hit her head and briefly lose consciousness.

The woman further alleged that the suspect later armed himself with a chopper and advanced towards her in a threatening manner, causing her to fear for her life and personal safety.

The woman reported the matter at the Acquero Police Station and was escorted to seek medical attention.

The suspect was later arrested and placed into custody as investigations continue.
