Sex offenders’ registry should be public, new Bill to go to Select Committee – President


President Dr. Irfaan Ali has said that a sexual offenders’ registry should be made public, and has instructed that the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill will be sent to a Select Committee.
This announcement was made on Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo’s Facebook page.
His full statement is as follows:
President Dr. Irfaan Ali has instructed that the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill, presented in the National Assembly on June 5th, 2026, be sent to a Select Committee. He has also indicated that it is his view, and that of the Cabinet, that any register of sex offenders must be public. I strongly share this view.
