Venezuelan construction worker remanded on firearm, ammo charges

A 27-year-old Venezuelan construction worker has been remanded to prison after appearing before the Wales Magistrate’s Court on firearm and ammunition-related charges.
Jonathan David Gans of Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Rondell Weever on Monday, June 15, 2026, where he was charged with possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of ammunition without a licence.
The charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred on June 11, 2026, at Schoonard, West Bank Demerara. Gans was arrested on the same day as part of the police investigation.
During his court appearance, the charges were read to him and he entered not guilty pleas.
Magistrate Weever subsequently remanded Gans to prison. The matter has been adjourned until July 14, 2026, when it is expected to continue before the court.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged offences remain ongoing.
