Venezuelan man gets 18 months jail for illegal gun possession


Luis Eduardo Lepaje Chacon, a 26-year-old Venezuelan national and labourer of Prospect, East Bank Demerara, has been charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm Without Licence. Chacon pleaded guilty when he appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.
Chacon was arrested last Thursday and charged on Monday.
The charge followed an investigation at Prospect, East Bank Demerara after Chacon entered a business place and was later observed with a firearm.
Further investigations led ranks to a construction site in the area, where a search was conducted and one black suspected pistol with an empty magazine was found concealed.
During the exercise, several cellular phones and a Rambo-type knife were also found. The suspected firearm, magazine, cellular phones, and knife were lodged pending further investigation.
