Cannabis worth millions seized during Police operation in East Bank Berbice


Police are investigating the discovery of more than eight kilograms of cannabis during an operation at Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice, on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Guyana Police Force, ranks were conducting an exercise in the area at about 3:30 pm when they observed two identifiable men behaving suspiciously in a yard.
Upon noticing the police, the men reportedly fled on foot and escaped.
Acting on information received, officers searched a building located in the yard from which the men had fled. During the search, they found a black garbage bag containing four bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic, as well as a black plastic bag containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Police also discovered a green suitcase containing two additional bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic and filled with leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The narcotics were taken to the Central Police Station, where they were weighed and amounted to 8.350 kilograms before being lodged as evidence.
No arrests have been made in connection with the discovery, and investigations are continuing.
