Future Warriors Tapeball shifts to Anna Regina National Stadium on June 20-21

Following highly competitive and successful zone matches in Demerara and Berbice, the excitement of the Future Warriors Tapeball for Primary School officially shifts to the Essequibo Zone this weekend, June 20-21, at the Anna Regina National Stadium.

The tournament, powered by ExxonMobil Guyana,  has already crowned two regional champions. Demerara was won by West Ruimveldt, while Berbice was claimed by St. Therese Primary.

With their respective victories, the New Amsterdam-based St. Therese Primary joins Demerara champions West Ruimveldt in the highly anticipated national postseason lineup.

16 primary schools from the Essequibo region will battle it out in a knockout format starting Saturday morning.

The participating schools include: Riverstown Primary, Taymouth Manor Primary, Hampton Court Primary, Lima Sands Primary, Good Hope Primary, Sparta Primary, 8th of May Primary, CV Nunes Primary, Huis T’ Dieren Primary, Mainstay Lake Primary, Onderneeming Primary, Fisher Primary, Charity Primary, Friendship Primary, Capoey Primary, Suddie Primary

Reflecting on the tournament’s journey so far, Tournament Director John Ramsingh shared his enthusiasm ahead of the upcoming weekend.

“It has been great for the tournament so far. We have witnessed some exceptionally good cricket from these young players, and now we are in the final leg of the regional qualifiers.

We expect the energy and talent in Essequibo to match, if not exceed, what we have seen across Demerara and Berbice,” Ramsingh stated.

Beyond the silverware, the tournament highlights an institutional focus on modern cricket metrics.

The top four schools from each zone receive comprehensive equipment bags, agility kits, and electronic scoring tablets.

The integration of tablets is designed to introduce young players to the digital mechanics of online match scoring, bridging the gap between recreational play and data analysis.

To ensure lasting development, all 16 participating schools also leave with baseline fitness equipment.

The regional champions crowned this weekend will progress to the Champion of Champions tournament later this year, scheduled for August or September.

The stakes remain incredibly high, as the ultimate winner of that national phase will earn a novelty fixture against the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Admission to the Anna Regina National Stadium is entirely free, and members of the public are encouraged to come out and support the future stars of Guyanese cricket.
