With the highly anticipated GT Challenge de Las Americas just weeks away, Guyana’s finest racing drivers are sharpening their teeth for a high-stakes, wheel-to-wheel showdown against Latin America’s elite.

At the centre of the pre-race buzz is former Starlet Cup Champion Rameez Mohamed.

A household name in Guyanese motorsport, Mohamed is preparing to ditch his familiar comfort zone for a thrilling debut in a machine that screams intent: a striking white KTM X-Bow.

Sponsored by Prem’s Electrical and BM Soat, the KTM represents a monumental step up from the Honda Civic (GP2) and Toyota Starlet (GP3) machinery that Mohamed has traditionally wrestled around the apexes.

It’s a challenge the former champion is embracing with open arms.

“The car has been ready for some time, but we were just fine-tuning it to my specifications,” Mohamed revealed in an official Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) media release.

“It’s definitely an entirely different machine compared to the ones I’m used to… but it presents a challenge that I am willing to take on.”

The precise competitive class for the radical, lightweight KTM within the GT Challenge framework remains a question mark, but Mohamed’s objective is crystal clear: “We are going to be out there 100% representing Guyana.”

Getting a radically different race car up to optimum speed requires track time—something that is currently at a premium.

Final track modifications at the South Dakota Circuit mean Mohamed’s team is playing a waiting game to resume their rigorous testing programme.

“The car is still new to me in some cases,” Mohamed admitted. “We are awaiting the completion of the works at the South Dakota Circuit before we can resume our testing. The car will do well in the series, and we are going to go all out.”

Should the testing gods smile upon his garage, Mohamed’s weekend could become incredibly busy.

He is also scrambling to ready his revered Renault Megane for Group 4 local honours, alongside his trusted Group 2 Honda Civic.

“We had some work to do on the Renault from the last event… Once we do, then we are also going to be running that,” he added, emphasising that track availability will ultimately dictate his final multi-class onslaught.

With the Dakota 100 and a scheduled track day looming on June 28, fans are eager to see if the KTM will make an early, surprise appearance.

True to the psychological warfare of top-tier motorsport, Mohamed is keeping his cards close to his chest.

“I guess we will have to wait and see!” he teased. “I’m not letting the cat out of the bag, but spectators can turn up, and maybe they will be surprised.” (PRESS RELEASE)
