Rose Hall Town man dies in motorcycle crash with teen rider in Black Bush Polder

A 27-year-old Rose Hall Town resident lost his life Wednesday evening after a devastating collision between two motorcycles along the Mibicuri Public Road in Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice.
Dead is Jermaine Smart, who was riding motorcycle CP 1482 west along the roadway when he collided with another motorcycle being driven in the opposite direction by 14-year-old student Swanti Culpepper of Mibicuri South.
Police said the crash occurred at about 6:30 p.m. It is alleged that the teenager was travelling east without his motorcycle’s headlamp illuminated when the two motorcycles slammed into each other.
The force of the impact threw both riders onto the roadway, leaving them with severe injuries. Concerned residents rushed to their assistance and transported them to the Mibicuri Public Hospital while both were unconscious.
Smart later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. His body has been taken to Ramoo’s Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Culpepper regained consciousness at the hospital but was subsequently transferred to the No. 75 Public Hospital due to the seriousness of his injuries. He remains a patient in the emergency unit and is listed in serious condition.
Police noted that a breathalyzer test could not be administered to the injured teenager because of his medical condition.
Investigations into the fatal crash are ongoing.
