‘From then to now’ – Building Expo 2026 to spotlight Guyana’s transformation

Visitors attending the International Building Expo 2026 will be taken on a journey through Guyana’s transformation over the past six decades, with this year’s event centered on the country’s 60th Independence anniversary.
Minister of Housing, Collin Croal said preparations for the June 25-28 expo are in their final stages, with organisers placing significant emphasis on showcasing Guyana’s development and achievements through the housing and construction sectors.
“From the time you enter the venue, right away you will have a feel of what it means for Guyana,” Croal said during an interview with the News Room on Tuesday.
According to Croal, the expo’s centrepiece will reflect the country’s evolution since gaining Independence.
“Our centrepiece this year is pillared on Guyana’s achievement of 60 years as an independent nation and the transformation that is taking place, how we have evolved from then to now,” he explained.

Croal said the theme will be reflected throughout the event by more than 350 exhibitors who will showcase advancements in housing, construction, technology and infrastructure.
“You will be able to see that in a meaningful way through our exhibitors,” he said.
The four-day event will feature six model homes, including two from the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) and four from private developers, offering patrons a firsthand look at modern housing options available in Guyana.
Beyond housing, Croal said the expo is intended to highlight the broader development taking place across the country.
“It’s not just about housing here, in general the country because housing is one pillar that says transformation is ongoing in a massive way,” he said.

The expo will also provide opportunities for networking, access to housing-related services and information on financing, construction materials and emerging technologies in the building sector.
Croal encouraged members of the public to attend and learn more about the country’s ongoing development.
“What we are doing here is not just helping the housing but construction in general… the transformation that is happening in our country,” he said.
International Building Expo 2026 will run from June 25-28 at the National Stadium, Providence. This year expo is being held under the theme “Guyana at 60: “Guyana at 60: Building Strong Foundations for a Sustainable Future.”
