Cuban woman found dead, Police Constable arrested

The Guyana Police Force is investigating a murder which was initially reported as a missing-person matter involving Dailen Paneque Gómez, a 26-year-old Cuban national of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.

Paneque Gómez was reported missing after she was last seen during the early morning hours of Thursday, June 18, while reportedly on her way to work. In a statement, Police Headquarters said sustained investigative work was done by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department, and that led to the discovery of the woman’s body. Her body was found in a decomposed state at about 19:50 hours, in a clump of bushes on the East Coast Demerara.

It was noted that a Police Constable has been arrested and is presently in custody assisting with the investigation.

Investigations are ongoing, and further information will be provided as the investigation progresses.
