More convenience for pensioners as NIS launches new payment initiative

The more than 60,000 pensioners who receive monthly disbursements from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) can now receive their cash with greater convenience through a new payment initiative launched on Wednesday.
Through the new initiative, pensioners can encash or exchange their vouchers via Bill Express, MoneyGram, and MMG, in addition to existing arrangements at the 14 NIS offices countrywide, the 63 post offices, and several commercial banks.
Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh hailed the initiative as one that better supports Guyana’s pensioners.

“… we want them to receive their pensions in a dignified, convenient, and comfortable manner. They should not have to join a line to receive their pension,” the Finance Minister said at an NIS event held at the Herdmanston Lodge, Queenstown.
According to him, pensioners can now encash their vouchers at 4,779 new locations, including at Bill Express (52), Moneygram (55), and MMG agents (4,672).
Beyond these new locations, he reminded the public that pensioners can receive their payments through their bank accounts. Already, about 20,000 pensioners utilise this avenue to get their monthly disbursements.
