‘Guyana is growing’- Jamaica PM hails Guyana’s development, urges Region to keep pace

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness is praising Guyana’s rapid transformation, saying the country’s pace of development is one the wider Caribbean should seek to emulate.
“Guyana is moving at pace and is growing at an incredibly fast pace and it is admirable and we should all seek to adapt the pace at which Guyana is growing,” Holness said.
Holness is currently in Guyana for an official state visit.
Speaking at the opening of International Building Expo 2026 on Thursday evening, Holness said Guyana’s progress in recent years has been remarkable, describing the country’s growth as admirable.
“I must say Guyana has changed quite a bit, the development has only been fantastic,” he said.
The Jamaican Prime Minister said Guyana’s expansion, particularly in housing and infrastructure, demonstrates what can be achieved when key resources are brought together with strong leadership and planning.
“Guyana has demonstrated what can be achieved when land, infrastructure, finance and as I have seen displayed here political will is brought together,” he said.
Holness highlighted Guyana’s housing programme as more than just the construction of homes, noting the focus on building communities through supporting infrastructure.
He said Guyana’s development model provides valuable lessons for other Caribbean countries, particularly as nations seek to expand opportunities for their citizens.
Holness also signalled opportunities for greater cooperation between Guyana and Jamaica, especially in housing development, labour and the use of new construction technologies.
“I believe there are opportunities for Jamaica and Guyana to collaborate in the housing developments here particularly as it relates to labour and the deployment of new technologies in construction,” he said.
