Walrond says ‘thorough, impartial & transparent’ probe will be conducted into death of Berbice teen

Home Affairs Minister, Oneidge Walrond has said that a “thorough, impartial and transparent” investigation into the death of 16-year-old Altaf King will be conducted.
The teenager died on Thursday night. Police Headquarters said King was riding motorcycle CL 5607, when he allegedly attempted to evade a police patrol. Police said he subsequently lost control of the motorcycle and collided with a utility pole.
However, residents in the area have disputed the police’s version of events. Several persons alleged that the teenager’s motorcycle was struck during the pursuit by the police vehicle, causing him to lose control before crashing. Protests have started in the Corentyne region after the incident.
