Massy backs Guyana as Caribbean’s next logistics, manufacturing powerhouse

Massy Group, the regional conglomerate with wide-ranging business interests across the Caribbean, says it is backing Guyana’s emergence as a hub for manufacturing, logistics and food production.
Speaking at the company’s Montrose location on Thursday, Massy Group President James McLetchie said Guyana’s ongoing transformation has only deepened the company’s confidence in the country.
“We’ve stayed here for the long-term and we will continue to stay here for the long-term. This remarkable growth taking place in the country is not temporary,” he said.
McLetchie was emphatic that Guyana’s future extends far beyond oil, saying the next chapter will be driven by infrastructure, logistics, food security, energy technology and entrepreneurship.
“This country possesses something that many nations are searching for the ability to produce and feed itself. What we would like to visualize is, imagine a world where we are producing all the food that we need in this region, with Guyana at the centre of a regional agricultural hub,” McLetchie said.
He said that vision is central to how Massy is thinking about food security, and called on Caribbean companies to start thinking bigger. The Group president outlined an ambition for Guyana to produce more of the food consumed across the region, export value-added products at scale and develop industries that create sustainable, long-term economic opportunities.
Manufacturing is already an area of active focus, with the company currently supporting local farmers by stocking their products on supermarket shelves.
McLetchie added that the country’s evolution should not stop at agriculture, it must also embrace manufacturing and industrial development, underpinned by modern technology.
