Mitra Ramkumar re-elected as THAG President

The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) today convened its 33rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Ogle Room, Herdmanston Lodge, where members reflected on the Association’s achievements over the past year and elected its Executive Committee for the 2026–2027 term. The morning session welcomed representatives of the diplomatic community, development partners, industry stakeholders, and members of the media. THAG was honoured to host Her Excellency Gale Miller Garnett, High Commissioner of Belize to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, as keynote speaker. Drawing on Belize’s internationally recognised leadership in ecotourism, Her Excellency highlighted the importance of sustainable tourism development, environmental stewardship, and regional collaboration. She encouraged stakeholders to continue working collectively to strengthen tourism offerings and foster meaningful Caribbean partnerships. In his President’s Report, outgoing President Mr. Mitra Ramkumar, Finance Director of the Roraima Group of Companies, reflected on THAG’s continued growth and advocacy efforts, citing the success of flagship initiatives such as Guyana Restaurant Week, Flame & Flavour, Tapas, Rum and Wine, and the SWIFT Internship Programme. He also reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to regional partnerships and advancing Guyana’s position as a premier destination for nature, culture, and adventure tourism. Following the keynote address and conclusion of the morning session, invited guests were excused, and members proceeded with the Association’s statutory business, including the presentation of the audited financial statements and the election of the Executive Committee. Mr. Ramkumar was subsequently re-elected as President of THAG for the 2026–2027 term. Also elected to serve on the Executive Committee are:

- Immediate Past President Mrs. Dee George Proprietor, Herdmanston Lodge
In accepting his re-election, Mr. Ramkumar thanked members for their continued confidence and reiterated the Association’s focus on advocacy, collaboration, and member engagement. “THAG exists to serve its members. We encourage businesses, regardless of size, to engage with the Association, share their challenges, and utilise our platform. Together, we can continue to strengthen Guyana’s tourism and hospitality sector and ensure it remains a source of pride and opportunity for our country,” he stated. THAG remains committed to championing policies and initiatives that support a resilient, sustainable, and globally competitive tourism industry while fostering partnerships that contribute to Guyana’s continued growth.
