NSC backs young Karateka Miah Sampson for ISKF World Shoto Cup

Ten-year-old karate prodigy Miah Sampson has received a major boost ahead of the ISKF World Shoto Cup, securing financial backing from the National Sports Commission (NSC).
Sampson is set to represent her country at the prestigious international tournament in Mérida, Mexico, this October.
The youngster and her mother, Angeline Cristie, were presented with the funding by Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle, as preparations intensify for the biggest tournament of the standard-bearer’s budding career.
“Miah has shown tremendous promise, and we wish her every success as she embarks on this important journey,” Ninvalle said, reinforcing the NSC’s long-standing relationship with ISKF-Guyana.
The four-day showpiece in Yucatán will bring together the world’s finest Shotokan practitioners under the leadership of renowned master Shihan Hiroyoshi Okazaki.
For Sampson, the focus now shifts entirely to the mat as she prepares to test herself against elite global competition.
“I am very thankful to the NSC for believing in me and supporting my journey to Mexico,” Sampson said. “I am training hard every day and will do my best to make Guyana proud.”
